Objective: To document outcomes of patients undergoing a two stage total hip revision with the PROSTALAC system.

Design: Retrospective chart review, concurrent prospective cohort.

Setting:   Three tertiary health care centers

Subjects: Patients undergoing two stage exchange arthroplasty in whom the PROSTALAC hip system was utilized.

Outcome Measures:
Functional outcome scores
Identification of organisms
Retention of prosthesis (up to two years)

Results:
            Demographics:
v     25 patients: 9 completed 2nd stage
v     15 - PROSTALAC in situ.

            Identification of Organism:
v    17 positive identifications at 1st stage
v    2 positive identifications at 2nd stage

            Functional Outcome Scores:
v    HHS: One excellent score, 3 fair and 2 poor.
v    WOMAC: 63% have minimal pain and 50% have good function.

Discussion:
v    Two patients did not clear their infection at 2nd stage but have responded well to IV antibiotics.
v    Retention of prosthesis is 100%.
v    To our knowledge there are no published functional scores on patients in the interval period.
v    Patients do not do as well as compared to primary THR, as expected, but have minimal pain and reasonable function.
